Most of us have learned how to cope with stress.
We take a break, exercise, meditate, or simply hope tomorrow feels a little easier. These are valuable ways to navigate difficult moments, but they also invite a bigger question.
What helps us move beyond simply coping? What allows us to recover, adapt, and continue growing when life becomes challenging?
These questions were explored by Dr. Krisnawan, physician and Pranic Healing Practitioner at UbudCare Wellness, during his recent talk, Beyond Coping: How to Build Resilience to Thrive Despite Life's Challenges, at Usada Bali.
One of the central messages was that resilience is not something we are born with. Like any meaningful skill, it develops through experience, self-awareness, and consistent practice.
Coping is an important first step. It helps us navigate difficult moments, but it is not the final destination. Resilience is what allows us to recover, adapt, and continue growing long after the immediate challenge has passed.
Stress itself is not always the problem. In healthy amounts, it can sharpen our focus, encourage learning, and motivate positive change. The challenge begins when stress becomes constant, leaving the body and mind with little opportunity to recover. Over time, chronic stress may affect sleep, energy, concentration, emotional balance, and overall wellbeing.
Rather than asking, "How do I escape this challenge?", resilience encourages us to ask, "What is this experience helping me develop?" This simple shift in perspective allows us to see challenges not only as obstacles, but also as opportunities for personal growth.
Building resilience therefore involves more than managing the mind alone. It requires caring for the whole person. Physical health, emotional wellbeing, mental clarity, our energy, and our sense of purpose all contribute to how we respond to life's challenges.
This reflects the philosophy of UbudCare Wellness, where modern medicine and complementary approaches such as Pranic Healing work together to support overall wellbeing. Modern medicine helps us understand how chronic stress affects the body, while complementary wellness practices offer another perspective for supporting emotional balance and inner wellbeing. Together, they encourage a more complete approach to caring for the whole person.
Every time we recover, adapt, and continue moving forward, we strengthen the resilience that prepares us for future challenges. Building resilience does not require extraordinary circumstances. It is developed through small, consistent habits that support both body and mind over time.
Thriving is not the absence of difficulty. It is the capacity to continue growing despite it
